My work at Habitat for Humanity is something I will always be grateful for. I was given the unique opportunity to go onsite and do work at Lake-Geauga Habitat for Humanity’s three locations. With the help of two other classmates, our job was to analyze, repair, and upgrade the network for each of Habitat’s buildings. Each building was in a very different state, with any previous work done purely by volunteers. Our job included removing deprecated or unnecessary cables, testing for network vulnerabilities, labeling ports, and managing switches. We’ve also recently set up a support ticketing and information website on a subdomain using OpenSupports. This has been a very involved, yet very exciting project, and we still have much to do. When we are done, we are hoping to have a detailed network diagram for each building and plenty of documentation for any future volunteers. I am beyond proud of what my classmates and I have been able to do, and I know that this experience has prepared me for much more in my future.
